Prospect and Retrospect of DUMA
Since inception of Evening MBA program in the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka in 2000 competition has been started among the professionals from various disciplines like me to have an opportunity to get prepared as self-talented, skilled and qualified managers for personal & organizational development. Being qualified in admission test, I started experiencing every day as a new day and every student as a single but complete institution while meeting with the students who came from diverse field of professions with various hierarchical levels. The combination of employees & employers, "interpreneurs & entrepreneurs, and dynamic & talent fresh students enriched the total environment of Evening MBA Program. One thing came to mind that how this environment and relationship can be better utilized to develop our professionalism. Then, I have contrived an idea of forming a big platform while gathering all of our fellows together for the betterment of EMBA graduates by exchanging information, experience and rational practice within us, that is, formation of legend Marketing Association. At once I have conveyed this idea to Md. Golam Hafiz Nahin and Mr. Hahibur Rahman. Mr. Nahin took all the responsibilities in his own shoulder to organize it, especially to share this idea with teachers and administrative bodies. We first approached our plan to Mr. Harun. Mr. M. A. Baten, Mr. Nur A Hasan, Mr. Assiquzzaman, Mr. Ataur, Mr. Sumon and others, at Madhur canteen. They extended their generous support and requested to organize a meeting at faculty canteen at the following day. Mr. Nahin, Mr. Harun and me in alliance with others have shared the idea among the MBA fellows in the department or Marketing and invited them to join in the first meeting on 18 February 2005. The first meeting was amazingly cheerful with a huge gathering of about 100 participants. Most of the participants highly encouraged the idea and proposed to form the organization in association with all other departments of Faculty of Business Studies not restricting only to Marketing department. They comment, "As we are from the same Faculty and the same University, we should not make any differentiation in our fellows. Moreover, if all the departments become together in a single platform then the prospect of the organization might be wider and incredible". From the discussion some important proposal and ideas have come out to form the organization. These are Name of the organization, Size, Goals and Objectives of the organization. In this way, second discussion meeting were also held with these issues and there was a huge dialogue on them. The same day an important decision has been taken by house to form a Coordination Committee to provide an outline of the Association and for Constitution formation. Mr. Md. Mizanur Rahman headed the committee with a responsibility to submit a constitution in association with Mr. Nahin & Mr. Sajib. Meantime the name of the organization, its objectives & goal became a debatable issue among the participants. To decide on this issues we talked to a number of our esteemed colleagues, namely Mr. Shahadat Hossain Lenin, Mr. Mesbahuddin, Mr. Toslim Uddin Khan, Mr. Shamsuzzaman, Mr. Mahbub, Mr. Zahir, Mr. Showkath, Mr. Parvez, Mr. Dipak, Mr. Badiul Alam, Mr. Ashok K. Chakrobarty, Mr. Rokon, Mr. Monju, Mr. Tayeb, Mrs. Gity Roy, Mr. Kamol, Mis. Happy, Mr. Tomal, Mr. Tanvir, Mr. Anis, Mr. Vascor, Mis. Chhanda, Mr. Azom, Mr. Ivan, Mr. Ashraf, Mr. Ehtesham, Mr. Lony. Mr. Shakil, Mr. Shamim, Mr. Naresh, Mr. Masuduzzaman, Mr. Sadiq, Mr. Zadid, Mr. Ataur, Mr. Saadi, Mr. Munim, Mr. Rumi, Mr. Amin, and still others. All of them suggested us to make a broader organization comprising all of the departments i.e. AIS, Mgt. Studies, Finance, and Marketing, of that time. Mr. Asaf Kabir Chowdhury Shato, from the department of AIS also appreciated the idea, and asked Mr. Nahin and Me to form the organization broadly. Some of our honorable teachers also highly appreciated the idea, and advised to form the organization widely with specific goals & objectives. In the 3rd meeting, whenever Mr. Md. Mizanur Rahman as a moderator proposed this idea to Mr. Nahin, Mr. Baten, Mr. Lelin, Mr. Zahir, Mr. Shawkot, they agreed and pass-out a name 'Dhaka University MBA Association' by the house. At this stage Mr. Nahin, Mr. Lenin, Mr. Baten, Mr. Harun, Mr. Mahbub, Mr. Zahir, Mr. Shawkot, and Mr. Hasan worked a lot and spent their valuable time to organize the association in a full length. At the same time, we shared the idea with key persons of other departments of Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka. All of them appreciated us and agreed to run together. In the 4th general meeting the decision was taken to form a convening committee and the house instantly selected Mr. Md. Mizanur Rahman as a Convenor by evaluating his leadership, capability, contribution, personality and quality. Mr. Lenin from Marketing Department selected as Joint Convenor. In the same way, Mr. Asaf Kabir Chowdhury Shato from Department of AIS, Mr. Anis Farook from Department of Finance, Mr. Murad from Department of Management Studies, Mr. Rony from Department of Banking, and Mr. Himadri from MIS has also been selected as Joint Convenor to organize an effective group from their own department to strengthen the organization. It is notable that Mr. Rana helps a lot to Mr. Farook to organize the Finance department and Mr. Zakir extended his tremendous efforts to Mr. Murad to organize the department of Management Studies. In this way, Dhaka University MBA Association got a full shape within one year of time. Dhaka University MBA Association is a professional but non-political organization under the registration of Ministry of Social Welfare, and approved by the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka. It is patroned by the department of Accounting & Information System (AIS), Banking, Finance, Management Information System Management Studies and Marketing of the Faculty or Business Studies, University of Dhaka with a privilege to have its proud donor member, respectable advisors, well wishers and professional bodies from various disciplines. We hope, we have the vision to see things right, mission to get connected, abilities to organize well, skill to develop profession and strength to acquire dynamic leadership.
