Physical Facilities

The DMIS offers an enjoyable teaching-learning environment, which has been made possible by the existence of some unique physical and related facilities. The facilities include:

•      A well-decorated computer lab that helps provide one student one-computer for computer related classes and simulations.

•      Network system and 24-hours on-line Internet connection in the computer lab.

•      Well-spaced classrooms in a serene natural environment with adequate ventilation and lighting.

•      In-built microphone system in all classrooms.

•       Big-sized white boards (no black boards) in all classrooms.

  • Chairs with writing facility for every student.

•      Sophisticated multimedia projectors for visual presentation using computer.

•      Fully air-conditioned meeting room and department office.

•      Individual furnished room for each faculty member, fitted with computer for individual use.

•      A common specialized library rich in latest-edition books at the 2nd floor of the faculty building.

Library Facilities

Students have access to the Dhaka University Central Library, which has in its possession some thousands of books. In addition, the Faculty of Business Studies has developed a library, which keeps primarily business and management-related textbooks. Our Department regularly procures need-based books upon recommendation of course teachers and allows the students to use those books through the faculty library.

Linkage with Business Community

The Department of Management Information Systems will maintain a strong linkage with the business community. We will invite the business leaders and professional managers to give practice-based seminars and workshops for our students and faculties. Round-table meetings with the business professionals will be held to generate innovative ideas regarding management issues as well as to elicit opinion about further refinement of our BBA and MBA curricula. We feel proud to incorporate in our curricula the expert suggestions of the business people so that our academic programs reflect the reality of the business world.

Organizational Attachment

Students of both BBA and MBA programs are required to complete an internship assignment of three months duration with preferably a business organization. Internship for each student is mandatory. Our Department maintains a regular contact with the public and private sector organizations including multinational companies and students are placed in those organizations for internship. As an integral part of their academic programs, each student, after the internship is over, has to prepare a report under the supervision of a departmental faculty. In the case of MBA program, students are required to defend the reports before the MBA Examination Committee.

Student Counseling and Guidance

Departmental student advisors regularly provide counseling services to the students on academic and related issues. Three departmental teachers are in charge of students’ counseling and guidance.

Monitoring and Supervision

The class-holding and students’ attendance and performances are closely monitored and supervised. The BBA Batch Coordinators and the MBA Supervision Committee are primarily responsible for monitoring and supervision of all activities related to BBA and MBA programs respectively. The departmental chairperson generally oversees the performance of both students and teachers. The department vows to continuously improve the quality of teaching learning in line with TQE philosophy.

Management Development Program

The Department of Management Information Systems has decided to be involved with organizing ‘management development programs’ for the senior, mid-level and operating le various public and private sector organizations. The primary purpose of such programs i the practicing executives update their knowledge in the management field and improve their skills so that they can develop in themselves the capability to face increasing challenges effectively and efficiently in the globalized knowledge based world. We will also conduct company -sponsored employee development programs. Our major clients are expected to be private organizations. banks,  insurance  companies,  sector corporations,  non-government  organizations,  and  the multinational companies, software developing companies and other corporate bodies.

•   Departmental Publications

Our Department in its academic committee meeting decided to publish a professional journal, namely, International Journal of Management Information Systems. The department will publish research based monographs, news letters, and prospectus for its different academic programs.
