Academic Program

BBA Program

The Department of Banking offers a four-year BBA program. The program comprises of 120 credit hours spread over eight semesters. The program design is much different from BBA programs of other universities. Along with developing comprehensive understanding of the business economics and ethics and legal environment, the BBA curriculum of this Department focuses more on theoretical and practical aspects of banking. The program is designed as one for terminal degree. The graduates are expected to get employment mostly in financial services and banking sectors.

MBA Program

The MBA program comprises of 48 credit hours spread over two semesters. It is a specialized and professional degree program. The Department of Banking, University of Dhaka, is the only institution in Bangladesh that offers MBA degree program in Banking.

Evening MBA Program

In order to fulfill the demand of the executives working in different organizations for obtaining MBA degree, the Department has introduced Executive MBA program in the evening hours. Class size is around 50. Admission takes place twice a year. Executives with any academic background can apply for admission. Selection is made through a competitive process.

M. Phil, and Ph.D. Programs

M.Phil, and Ph.D. programs are offered to intending students who have outstanding performance at the previous levels. Under these programs, students have to undergo both course work and thesis preparation. The thesis is supervised by a teacher of the Department.

TEACHING METHOD

The Department follows modern teaching methods for the students. Class lectures are supplemented by case analysis, term papers, field visits, computer applications and guest lectures by key business and bank executives in the country. All class rooms are equipped with overhead projectors and sound systems. In addition, multimedia overhead projectors are used for class lectures and presentations by students. The medium of instruction is English.

COURSE EVALUATION

The Department of Banking has introduced course evaluation at the end of each semester. The objective of course evaluation is to address students’ concerns and problems in the course. This enables the teachers to enrich the course and the teaching method to be followed in the course. The BBA Program Office conducts the evaluation for each course through a structured evaluation form. Generally, this is conducted in the last week of the semester.
