Computer Facilities
The Department is equipped with a modern Computer Lab established with a view to catering to the needs of computational and computer skill of the students in the informational technology age. The Computer Lab has 40 Personal Computers of latest configurations with networking system, Internet connections, and multi-media system. The Department has been successfully accomplishing its obligation to equip the students with the primary knowledge and skill of the computer through its various programs. The Department offers regular courses on business application packages to the students. Recently, a multi-media system has been installed in order to facilitate the students in presenting case studies and term papers. Moreover, offices of the teachers are well equipped with personal computers and internet facilities in most cases.
Placement
Application of acquired knowledge in the classes and exposure of the students to the business practices of the organizations in both private and public sectors are necessary conditions for any effective business education. The Department attaches utmost importance to it. As such, a Placement Office has been established with the responsibilities to (a) organize exposure visits of the undergraduate and graduate students to different organizations, industries, banks and insurance companies; (b) secure places for the students to work as interns in different organizations; (c) organize job fairs for our graduates; (d) publish brochures and documents for dissemination of information among the potential employers; and (e) invite distinguished scholars, professionals, business executives as guest speakers on specific topics for enriching knowledge of our students under the Monthly Guest Lecture Series.
Counseling and Guidance
The University of Dhaka has a separate cell for students’ counseling and guidance in order to keep close contact among the students and faculty members. As part of the program, two faculty members of the Department are in charge of the Students’ Counseling and Guidance in general. These two faculty members provide counseling services to the students on academic and other relevant problems.
Supervision and Monitoring
The Department keeps relevant information of each student separately on a printed card for the purpose of monitoring. On admission a student is required to furnish academic and other information. The Department keeps record of the student’s academic records and other relevant matters while he is in the university. Batch Program Directors of BBA programs monitor academic performance of the students. The MBA Co-ordination Committee is responsible for monitoring academic performance of the students of MBA program.
Internship Program
Internship for three months in private business organizations, government offices, public sector corporations, banks or other financial institutions is an integral part of our academic programs. The objective of the program is to expose the students to the organizational work situation. Each student is required to complete the program and prepare a report according to a format specified by the supervising teacher. The supervising teacher taking into consideration the report of the supervising executive in the organization and the defense committee formed by the departmental academic committee, grades this Internship report. The weight assigned to the report is 6 semester credit hours.
Monthly Guest Lectures
As an integral part of our BBA and MBA programs, the Department organizes guest lectures / seminars inviting eminent personalities both from the public and private sectors. The objective of this exercise is two-fold: first, to introduce the departmental students to the challenges and opportunities in real world; and second, to present before the dignitary potential human resources, groomed up by the department.
Class Room Facilities
The department is equipped with air-conditioned classrooms. The classrooms are also fitted with multimedia projectors, overhead projectors, microphones and other state-of-the-art facilities.
